COURSE CURRICULUM

YEAR ONE

Year One focuses on Human Development, Spiritual Formation and how Student Ministries merges the two.  The goal here is to build a rich and deep understanding of the underlying systems at work when we engage people in the earliest stages of development.
    • FIRST 6 WEEKS
    • WEEK 1 : ORIENTATION
    • WEEK 2 : FROM BIRTH THRU EARLY ADULTHOOD
    • An inside look at the intricate process of formation, birth and dependency.  An exploration of the complex formation of communication, self-awareness and emerging independence.
    • Dissecting self-expression, personal boundaries and establishing independence. Living in the reality of a life that has been 25 years in the making.
    • WEEK 3 : THE RISE AND IMPACT OF VALUES
    • When and how are values formed?  What are the influences?  Where do they live in our emotional and cognitive processes?  How are they written and when do they become permanent? The powerful role that values play in shaping our choices, attitudes, perspectives and ultimately our lives.  A detailed look at the subsets of values and the ways in which they dictate our every decision.
    • WEEK 4: INFLUENCES AND FORMATION
    • Discovering the type and effect of the various influences that are at work shaping our values and who we will become.
    • WEEK 5: INFLUENTIAL DYNAMICS
    • A look at the intricate dynamics of influence, response and adjustments.  How we self-navigate from pain to pleasure through the experience of the influences around us.
    • WEEK 6: DEFINING CHILDHOOD
    • Using the foundation of Human Development and Values Formation, we target the most formative years and clearly define the era we refer to as childhood.
    • 4 WEEK BREAK

    • SECOND 6 WEEKS WEEKS
    • WEEK 7-8 : UNPACKING OUR STORY
    • A study of our own human development journey as a means for understanding the journey of others.
    • WEEK 9 : A GOD BREATHED TEMPLE
    • We take a look at the "spirit of a man" from a biblical perspective, unlocking the real us.  We explore the role of the spirit in the human system.  How does spiritual formation impact the human experience and when does this begin?
    • WEEK 10 : BECOMING LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN
    • The emergence of the real us - how soon can we learn that we are spirit?  Are there clues from the Word about Spiritual development?  What are the patterns that we see with regard to young children and the process of becoming mature followers of Christ?
    • WEEK 11 : FORMATION TIMELINES
    • The process of becoming a follower of Christ is most impacted by the unintentional and intentional efforts of those who influence our lives when we are young.
    • WEEK 12 : THE IMPACT OF A STRONG SPIRIT
    • A comparison of biblical and contemporary individuals who have demonstrated strong and weak spiritual formation and the implications for the journey of our children.

    • THIRD 6 WEEKS
    • WEEK 13 : THE ROLE OF THE HOME IN SPIRITUAL FORMATION
    • What is God’s design for the home and family?  How does this structure impact human development and spiritual formation?
    • WEEK 14 : THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH IN SPIRITUAL FORMATION
    • What do we discover in the Word about spiritual formation?  How was the Church first established in this purpose and how has it evolved?
    • WEEK 15 : WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
    • The battle to be an influence in a world of influences.  What is the reality of the impact of Children's Ministry on the social-emotional and spiritual formation of children?  What is the most / best for which we can hope?  What should we set as achievable, realistic and meaningful goals?
    • WEEK 16 : INTENTIONAL FORMATION
    • Principles for developing strategies that will maximize our influence on the collective group of children and individual children we serve.
    • WEEK 17 : MINDING THE DYNAMICS OF INFLUENCE & CONNECTION
    • Building a rhythm for recognizing, cooperating with and influencing the influential voices in the lives of young children.  We will use the information discovered from our own human and spiritual development stories to understand why certain relationships are easier than others, and how to ensure we are fair with every child we lead.
    • WEEK 18 : ENCOURAGING HEARTS & TRAINING SPIRITS
    • Techniques for connecting relationally and emotionally with every child.  Influencing children from a purely spiritual perspective.  Being watchful to not compromise spiritual development for the sake of meeting emotional needs.

    • FOURTH 6 WEEKS
    • WEEK 19-20 : UNPACKING OUR STORY
    • A study of our own journey's as a means for understanding the journey of others.
    • WEEK 21 : TEACHING AND MEASURING ESSENTIAL FAITH FUNDAMENTALS
    • What are the core principles that children need to learn to build a strong foundation of Faith?  How do we measure that progress?
    • WEEK 22 : INTENTIONAL SPIRITUAL MENTORSHIP
    • An exploration of systems and processes that support discipleship for non-KUEST students.
    • WEEK 23 : DISCOVERING SPIRITUAL JURISDICTION
    • Understanding the boundaries of our spiritual jurisdiction in the lives of kids and the other spiritual authorities that have influence over their lives.
    • WEEK 24 : UNDERSTANDING THE SPIRITUAL CAPABILITIES OF CHILDREN
    • An in-depth  look at what children are capable of spiritually before they reach the early teen years.  The goal here is to raise our expectations to the level of the Word.
    • TAKE HOME FINAL
    • WEEK 25 : END OF YEAR FINAL CLASS

 YEAR TWO

Year Two will focus on Practical Ministry Development.  From project management to recruitment and team development to practical leadership, the goal here is to strengthen the overall leadership capacity of every participant and to position them for the launch of the KUEST Student Leadership System.

    • FIRST 6 WEEKS
    • WEEK 1 : CHURCH HISTORY, BIBLICAL MANDATES AND CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
    • An in-depth chronological look at the development of ministry to kids into the modern era.  An exploration of the most notable influences on modern-day children's ministry thinking. What does the Bible say about Children's Ministry?  What is the closest model of Biblical Children's ministry we can find?
    • WEEK 2 :  RESETTING THE TARGET
    • Discerning between tradition and effective ministry to kids and resetting our perspective in alignment with the Word.
    • WEEK 3 : INTRO OF KUEST PHILOSOPHIES
    • The birth of KUEST against the backdrop of biblical approaches to discipling young students. An in-depth look at the challenges and benefits of recalibrating our ministries to more effectively develop young followers of Christ.
    • WEEK 4 : UNDERSTANDING THE VISION OF YOUR CHURCH
    • How to explore your church's vision in a deeper way.  Maintaining alignment with your Pastor while establishing new norms for Children's Ministry. 
    • WEEK 5 : UNPACKING & DEVELOPING YOUR PERSONAL LEADERSHIP STYLE
    • Discovering your style of leadership will help you embrace your strengths and staff for your weaknesses. Exploring personal rhythms for ensuring your continual growth as a leader.
    • WEEK 6 : ESTABLISHING YOUR VALUES, VISION AND MISSION
    • Understanding the process of establishing, clarifying and communicating your vision and mission from a place of values.

    • SECOND 6 WEEKS
    • WEEK 7 : LEADING WITH VISION
    • As a Kids Leader, you will always be subject to the vision of your pastor.  Taking the time to explore and understand the mission behind the vision and the passion behind the catchphrase will help you set clear targets for your ministry within the context of what you have learned about the emotional and spiritual development of people in the early stages of life.
    • WEEK 8 : THE COMMUNICATION CYCLE & RESOURCE
    • Understanding the five components of effective communication and how to leverage them for leading your team.  PLUSOnline training tool.
    • WEEK 9 : EXPLORING PERSONALITY TOOLS & RESOURCES
    • A discussion of the various personality assessment systems and how they can serve the process of building culture on your team.  An introduction on accessing and implementing these systems.   Includes, DISC, Enneagram, Strength Finders and Meyers-Briggs.
    • WEEK 10 : THE POWER OF PROCESS
    • Exploring the components and practical application of robust processes and how they impact our ability to reasonably predict and repeat success.
    • WEEK 11 : INTRO TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION & RESOURCE
    • A discussion on the critical nature of healthy conflict on a team and how to manage that conflict in a way that leverages it for the advancement of the vision and mission.  PLUS Access to an online assessment tool.
    • WEEK 12 : INTRO TO THE CAB SYSTEM & RESOURCE
    • An overview of the 24-session, 6-tool online training system that impacts organizational Clarity, Alignment and Busting Barriers.  PLUS access to that system.

        • WEEK 14: INTRO TO PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION 
        • Tools and methods for effectively building, managing and completing simple to complex projects.
        • WEEK 15 : SHEPHERDING PERSONAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH FOR LEADERS
        • An exploration of the value and methods for establishing and managing a strong system for shepherding the spiritual growth of the leaders around you.
        • WEEK 16 : RECRUITING, BUILDING & POSITIONING YOUR TEAM TO COMPLIMENT YOUR GIFTS
        • An in-depth look at best practices for recruiting, building, and positioning team members to best serve the vision and mission of the ministry and to compliment your gifts as a leader.
        • WEEK 17 : CHILDRENS MINISTRY APOLOGETICS & UNAPOLOGETICS
        • Equipping for defending the value and approach to children’s ministry.  Equipping for sharing the passion of children’s ministry as a voice of influence and persuasion.
        • WEEK 18 : ESTABLISHING THE KUEST CULTURE & BRAND
        • Practical steps for building a church-wide momentum for the KUEST Student Leadership model of ministry.

              • WEEK 19 : KUEST AND HUMAN/SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT  
              • An in-depth look at the science behind the impact of KUEST and the Spiritual components that are the foundation of how KUEST empowers strong, spiritual growth in young students.
              • WEEK 20 : THINKING LIKE KUEST
              • A discussion of the KUEST Student Leadership mindset.  Identifying and rewiring common beliefs that are counter to Core KUEST Student Leadership beliefs.
              • WEEK 21 : ONBOARDING A CHURCH
              • An in-depth overview of the church on-boarding process with the goal of equipping students to help other churches step into the process of becoming a KUEST Church.  Through this process, students will gain an even deeper understanding of the value and impact of KUEST.
              • WEEK 22 : BUILDING YOUR KUEST TEAM
              • An in-depth look at the qualities of strong KUEST Coaches and how to recruit, train and deploy adult coaches to help administrate and mentor your KUEST Student Leadership team.
              • WEEK 23 : RECRUITING STUDENTS
              • A step-by-step demonstration of how to connect and recruit students for serving on the KUEST Student Leadership team.
              • WEEK 24 : LAUNCHING AND MANAGING YOUR KUEST SYSTEM
              • The step-by-step process of launching the KUEST Student Leadership System.
